Seattle Community Open Band Contra Dance
Mondays, June 24 and July 22!
(Others are welcome to organize additional outdoor dances. We will post here if requested.)
Let’s celebrate the summer with outdoor dances! These dances pretty much run themselves, though some of us have been prime instigators in past years.
Open to all – come dance, play, take a turn calling..
We choose the place on the lawn after arrival – usually one of the two triangle shaped bits of lawn between the brick restroom building and the lake – on the north side of Green Lake, just east of the wading pool. Closest cross streets are Wallingford Ave N. and, East Green Lake Dr N
Come any time after 6 to picnic/socialize and possibly jam or warm up.
Dancing usually starts around 7 and goes until dark.
Open sign-up for callers, with a small battery operated system provided.
Musicians: Tune selection will be by consensus, though leadership roles may surface by the more experienced. If there are contra dance tunes you want to be played that others will know, bring your suggestions. Two tune sets work best.
Bring your own chair if you want one!
Everyone is welcome to come dance, play in the band, or take a turn calling a dance! (or just listen, or do everything!)
Masks are optional. If there are enough dancers and people want to opt for a masked line, that can happen.
Rain will cancel or postpone the dance – check the Facebook page for the latest info. We will try to update this page as well.
